BUYING BETTER

A small guide to software licenses.

Devices, duration and usage rights. Understand exactly what your license includes.

A license is permission with boundaries

A software purchase usually gives you specific usage rights. Look for the number of users and devices, permitted operating systems, and whether personal or commercial work is covered.

Subscription, annual or perpetual?

A subscription may renew until canceled. A fixed-term license expires after its stated duration. A perpetual license may cover a particular version while updates, storage and support have separate terms. Read the final provider terms rather than inferring rights from a label.

Understand how activation works

Some products activate with a key; others attach a license to a provider account. Check whether an account is required and whether the license can be moved to another device. Never share credentials to receive a product.

Know the source

Look for a named seller, clear product edition and a documented activation method. Avoid shared accounts, cracks, unexplained regional workarounds and keys without a verifiable source.

Keep a useful record

Save your receipt and license terms. Before activation, check the refund policy and any cancellation rules that apply to your purchase.
